I am not much of
a TV watcher but I do love one advertisement (It is
an ad for an antidepressant medication, I can’t
remember which one). It starts out with a gloomy
scene:
“Who does
depression hurt?” – then the film shows a variety of
victims of depression including a dog with a ball in
his mouth and no one to play with. The ad is
addressing clinical depression, which is highly
treatable with both medication and psychotherapy.
It’s a good
message
for all of us, even those with less serious problems
then clinical depression. Life stresses can weigh us
down, sap our energy and drain the joy right out of
life. There are times when a loss or life change
brings many feelings including the discomfort of
anxiety and a feeling of low energy. These feelings
seem to be in the mind but the truth is they live
and linger in the body, finding places to grow. The
growing of problems, stress, resentments and grief
cause the body to speak its’ own language, by
breaking down and become dis – eased or unbalanced.
It doesn’t have to be that way – Seeing a qualified
therapist who understands the link between body and
mind can help…
